9 (New York City Subway service)

The 9 Ninth Avenue Local and <9> Ninth Avenue Express are two rapid transit services of the IRT division of the New York City Subway. Local service is denoted by a (9) in a circular bullet, and express service is denoted by a <9> in a diamond-shaped bullet.

9 trains operate local during weekends and late nights between Burnside Avenue in the Bronx and South Ferry in Lower Manhattan. During weekdays in the peak direction, <9> Ninth Avenue Express trains replace 9 local trains north of 155th Street, and run express between that station and Rector Street. During this time, 9 Ninth Avenue Local trains short turn at 155th Street.
